Accurate astrometric position for M31-RV.

MUNARI U., HENDEN A. and BOSCHI F.

Abstract (from CDS):

M31-RV, erupting in 1988 in the bulge of the Andromeda galaxy, was one of the most mysterious outbursts ever recorded, producing an M supergiant that at peak magnitude became the brightest cool star of the Local Group. Poor available astrometry and finding charts have plagued both the search for the remnant on HST images of the very crowded M31 bulge field, as well as archival plate searches to better define the outburst light curve. Here we provide accurate astrometry (at 0.2 arcsec, more than an order of magnitude better than previously available), and a good finding chart.
