The slow mode of star formation: A critical appraisal.

Abstract (from CDS):
The main evidences in favor of the idea that star formation in molecular clouds proceeds in a slow fashion is reviewed. First, I describe the empirical evidence for the accelerating character of star formation in a number of nearby star forming regions. Then, some of the criticisms to this model are discussed. Finally, I suggest two observational tests to estimate the actual age spread in selected young (open) clusters.
