The evolution of case B intermediate mass close binaries with Galactic and Magellanic Cloud chemical abundances.

DE LOORE C. and VANBEVEREN D.

Abstract (from CDS):

We present an extended set of evolutionary computations of intermediate mass close binaries with mass ratio q=0.6 and q=0.9 and with initial abundances (X,Z)=(0.7, 0.02), =(0.76, 0.002) appropriate for the Galaxy and the Small Magellanic Cloud, the LMC being intermediate. The computations are performed using OPAL opacities and we include the effect of convective core overshooting. The evolution of both components is followed simultaneously. Special attention is given at the evolution of the secondary; different accretion models are proposed. After the mass transfer phase the evolution of the mass loser (resp. mass gainer) is continued until the end of its own core helium burning phase (resp. core hydrogen burning phase). The computations can be used to study Algol systems, Be stars which have a binary origin, binaries containing WD components.
