Supernova 2012cc in NGC 4419 = PSN J12265681+1502455.

MARION G.H., MILISAVLJEVIC D. and IRWIN J.

Abstract (from CDS):

G. H. Marion and D. Milisavljevic, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 340-740 nm) of PSN J12265681+1502455 = 2012cc was obtained on May 13 UT by J. Irwin with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). The object is a heavily reddened type-II supernova. H-alpha produces a broad P-Cyg feature that is similar to that of SN 1987K near maximum brightness (Filippenko 1988, A.J. 96, 1941). The velocity of H-alpha is 13500 km/s, measured at the absorption minimum, but strong reddening suppresses other Balmer series lines. Also similar to SN 1987K, there is evidence for He I in absorption.
