Yamaoka, Kyushu University, reports a discovery of an apparent supernova by Yasuhide Fujita (Ehime, Japan) with the Kuma-Kogen Astronomical Observatory's 0.60-m telescope, in the course of the Supernova Observing Web (SNOW) project (Yamaoka et al. 2002, IAU Symp. 187, p. 241). The new object was discovered on Jan. 14.499 UT at magnitude R = 18.7 and confirmed on Jan. 16.619 at R = 17.8. SN 2008L is located at R.A. = 3h17m16s.65, Decl.= +41d22'57".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 6" west and 10" south of the nucleus of NGC 1259.
