SIMBAD references

G. Pignata, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; P. Challis and W. M. Wood-Vasey, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics; and T. Davis, Dark Cosmology Center, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen; on behalf of the ESSENCE project (cf. IAUC 8427, 8464), report the discovery of 18 supernovae on multiple R- and I-band images taken at the Blanco 4-m telescope equipped with the MOSAIC II camera during Sept. 13-27 and Oct. 10-24 by project members. Spectroscopy observations (range 380-890 nm) were obtained on Oct. 22-24 with the Very Large Telescope (+ FORS1) and the Magellan Clay telescope (+ LDSS3), showing each to be type-Ia supernovae except for 2006lz, which is of type II. The column labelled "Offset" gives the distance of the supernova from the apparent host galaxy's center in arcseconds. SN 2006 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl.
