Abstract (from CDS):

We report 0.9-2.5 µm spectroscopic observations of the young stellar object KH 15D at several points on the light curve through the eclipse of 2003 February. The out-of-eclipse infrared spectra confirm the spectroscopic identification of approximately K7 V, without evidence for selective extinction. As the star entered eclipse and the intensity dropped by ∼1 mag, the spectra and synthetic J-H and H-K magnitudes derived from the spectra indicated a slight blueing, which however requires further confirmation. On coming out of eclipse, the spectral colors showed no change (≤0.03 mag) compared with the colors when the eclipsed intensity had dropped by 1 mag. The gray extinction suggests that the particle sizes in the obscuring disk or ring are large, with radii ≥2.5 µm.
