Abstract (from CDS):

Maria Mitchell's comparisons of Ο Ceti with surrounding stars are reduced with modern magnitudes to give the light curve for the maxima in early 1857 and two cycles later in late 1858. THe state of astronomical photometry at the time is briefly reviewed.
