Notes (1) :
|
This very red star was marked by me as an cool supergiant candidate on IR objective-prism plates several years ago, and Wing 8-band photometry was done on it in May 1997. The photometry showed that it has neither TiO nor CN and so was given a classification of earlier than K3.5 but with heavy space/circumstellar reddening. That agrees with what I see on the plate. It is not in IRAS but is a weak source in the 8 and 12µ MSX6 bands (MSX6C G353.0806-00.4188).
It is interesting to note that the star is only 7 deg from the galactic center where a lack of carbon stars compared with M stars has been known for 50 years. That lack is now slightly more pronounced!
